My first proper go at the whole thing of putting a clip from raw footage to a final edited piece. This is the first time I’ve filmed properly using a decent camera (I’ve gone down the Canon 7D route; which I can see some folded arms from the purists already) at all, and the first time I’ve ever edited something together which wasn’t done for a laugh (i.e. something not Windows Movie Maker).

The idea of this little music video is to understand how to edit footage together, how to use the camera, how to even understand the camera… and that little gem of how to deal with the outputted file once you’ve exported it from your editing suite.

The music was written by Jose Francos-Rodriguez (our willing performa of the song and star of the video) and Daniel Agra Trillo. Using this happy but poignant music seemed perfect as a first subject. Jose and myself sat down and recorded the song in an hour or so, with me adding some additional piano as it was just a purely acoustic instrumental song at the time. It all seemed to come together in the end, as the footage was recorded with a few ideas in mind, but we just went with the flow when filming (and ended up laughing our head off every other second).

There are so many factors you do not think about when making a film. Coming from a music production background, there are some stark differences (excusing the obvious) when editing, though some similarities which come in handy. However, doing this video has been fun as also very telling, and all these projects are helping to build towards creating a feature film.

The next big project is a short film which is in ‘pre-pre-production.’ More information will be given on the site, however cropping up in-between will be small projects, mainly testing out filming, editing and post production ideas.
