Synopsis

Two friends wander through a forest looking for a good spot to dig. They have known each other for some years now and have been doing this job of digging holes in remote locations so long that it has become fairly pedestrian. Their job is to dig a hole and await a package to be delivered before giving a right of passage.

Joel stars opposite Jodie Comer in the apocalyptic thriller feature THE END WE START FROM, directed by Mahalia Belo (SunnyMarch/ Hera Pictures), which premieres at TIFF 2023. Upcoming is the second season of Taika Waititi’s HBO Max series OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH.

Cary Crankson as Michaels

Cary grew up in Camberwell, South London. He graduated from RADA in 2006. Since then he has played various roles in Theatre, TV and Film both in the UK and abroad.

His professional debut I’M GONNA WAKE UP ONE MORNING won best short video at the Empire Film Awards. He has been nominated three times for Best Male Performance at the Off West End Awards, for his roles as Iago in Shakespeare’s OTHELLO, Mephistopheles in a one-man reworking of Goethe’s FAUST and he finally won in 2020 for his portrayal of Jamie in COUNTRY MUSIC by Simon Stephens.

His most recent credits include understudying Rafe Spall in DEATH OF ENGLAND at the National Theatre, London and Mr. Boroughclough in the award-winning film SCRAPPER by rising talent Charlotte Regan.

The Team

Bradley Taylor – Writer & Director

Bradley started making short films at the age of 18 and has always been a film lover. Whilst training to be an actor he wrote and directed a sellout play in London. After a flourishing career as an actor, he started to create his own work where he helped produce and starred in ROSIE directed by up-and-coming director Will Thorne which he later collaborated on his first feature film Silent Night as co-producer and lead, on Netflix from November 2023.

He has several projects in development including a TV series, a feature which will star in and a triptych of shorts. Diggers is Bradley’s directorial debut.

Ivan Madeira – Executive Producer

The Toronto Star recently hailed Ivan Madeira as part of the Reelworld festival “the next big names of tomorrow” with his debut feature PATTERN (2022). The film played at several festivals including Reelworld where he won Outstanding Feature Film Producer and won Best Narrative Feature at Roxbury International Film Festival.  It was also nominated for Best Film at British Urban Film Festival (BUFF). It’s out globally on the exclusive film festival-driven curated platform Highball.TV. 

Ivan has been working as an independent filmmaker since 2009, with his first dramatic short film GROW UP (2011) becoming his entry into the scene. He has several TV, Film and Documentary projects in development.

Ivan is a member of The Directors Guild Canada, Canadian Media Producers Association, The Canadian Academy and The Directors UK (Associate Member). 

Sophie Lipsey – Producer

Sophie is a producer and the head of creative development at New Sparta Productions. After a few years working across the industry – roles in freelance production & talent agencies/post-production – Sophie joined the development and production company New Sparta in 2021.

Since then, Sophie has been part of the production team on several international productions across the UK, USA, Italy and the middle-east. She co-produced the upcoming feature film Lone Star Bull and was an associate producer on this year’s action-comedy MAFIA MAMMA as well as the upcoming Saudi-British drama TO MY SON.

Sophie has the ongoing pleasure of working with some of the most exciting established and emerging talent (both on and off screen) across the world. 

Anna Argiros – Producer, 1st Assistant Director

Anna has spent the last five years working as an Assistant Director as well as within production and has a special interest in stop-motion animation and live action puppetry.

She worked on the BAFTA award-winning series DON’T HUG ME, I’M SCARED and most recently Aardman’s upcoming, CHICKEN RUN 2: DAWN OF THE NUGGET.

Anna also makes her own stop-motion films in her spare time; her short, COLD BLOODED won Best Animated Short at Screen Power Film Festival in London.

Laura Seward – Director of Photography

Laura is an Irish Director of Photography based in London. She is a member of Illuminatrix Rising, BAFTA Connect, the International Collective of Female Cinematographers (ICFC) and Women Behind The Camera.
 

Born in the US and growing up in Nigeria, Indonesia, Australia and the UK, she began her career through action sports and working as a ski instructor. She then attended the London Film School in 2015, specialising in cinematography. Laura’s work is diverse and has taken her all over the world, from Iceland to Pakistan.

Her work on UNWRAPPED was nominated for Best Cinematography at Underwire Film Festival 2022.
