Help the victims of Tsunami disaster - 6 months on
During times of disaster, especially of this magnitude, we can feel so helpless in terms of what we can do to help. So I'm encouraging you to do your bit, by clicking on these links and finding ways of how you can do your bit. My thoughts go out to everyone involved from the victims, their families and friends, to the people going out there to perform relief work. People still need help, if you believe charity stays at home, that's up to you, but if you can help yourself and others then why not? It's all up to you, no one is forcing you. Ivan

HENTUCKY BREAKS IS NOW ONE YEARS OLD

With a birthday, comes a celebration. With Hentucky there is no exception, by putting on a little meet up and releasing the third Hentucky Breaks mix CD - Birthday Beats this my way of saying thank you for all your support, and just a milestone to look back on in future times.
Hentucky Breaks - Birthday Beats - Mixed by Kingpin

To celebrate one year of Hentucky Breaks, I've decided to bring out a little mixtape. It's official release date is 16th July at Living Bar - Brixton where you can claim your free copy at this even (limited to 50 free copies on the night).
This time I've decided to go back to basics and drop a straight up party mix, dropping a variety of tracks all to put you in a party mood. On occasion there are a few underground numbers, all put in to expose a couple of relatively unknown producers. Again it's a mixture of some you like some you don't and some you might like, so I hope you enjoy it. Click HERE to see the tracklisting.
Special mention goes out to Goatlab and his superb track Let's Find the World. Goatlab a 'friend of the show' who has featured on the GM Experience Mixtape is back with another exclusive. Download your copy HERE for more details.
South London Shindig - Brixton, Living Saturday 16th July 2005

On Saturday 16th July, there will be a little Hentucky Breaks gathering going on at Living - Brixton. This isn't a proper Hentucky club night, but a nice gathering to celebrate a variety of things. I've hired out a section of the top floor and hope to begin the night around 8pm. There will some chilled out beats played with a bit of Hentucky music thrown in for good measure, as you'll be able to get your hands on Birthday Beats, the next mix cd by Kingpin which will be released on this night. 50 copies will be given out on the night in a birthday fashion (party bag and everything) so first come first served. Also, it's been over 1 year since Hentucky held it's first event, so why not celebrate that for a laugh! There will be a raffle on the night, where money raised will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. Come 11pm, Living Resident DJs will take over the night playing a mixture of funky house and 80/90s mixmash.
If you wish to come to this event then please email kingpin@hentuckybreaks.co.uk with you and your friends names to get in for free. There will be a charge if you're not on the guestlist if you come before 10pm, but get down early and have a drink and relax and get some cake.

HENTUCKY BREAKS IS BACK - 28TH MAY 2005 @ SAHARA NIGHTS

Yes that's right, you heard it, Hentucky Breaks is back. Again as before the night will be in support of Teenage Cancer Trust where all profits made from the night will be donated to the TCT.

This time though we have moved to a new venue of Sahara Nights located at: Pentonville Road, Kings Cross. The night will be quite a lively affair, with only one thing in mind [camp voice + extra lisp]"PAR-TAY"[/camp voice + extra lisp]. There will be six DJs on the night, bringing you a variety of styles as follows.
- DAVID JOSEPH: He will be getting everyone in the mood with a mixture of soul, rare groove and funky beats it's going to be put everyone on a high. David holds a residency at The Lodge, 226-228 Harlesden High Street. The Lodge is run by Stuart Patterson who is famed for his Soulsonic and Faith parties. David has also been involved with Suuba which is associated with the St. Lucia Jazz festival.
- ESP: Taken from Remanissradio.net "E.S.P has been mixing for 16 years since he first started playing Hip Hop on two second hand decks with no pitch control, but soon got into House music around late 87'. In early 88 he started building up a collection of House and purchased two SL1210's where he progressed to playing at friends parties and squat raves. These experiences along with the House music stations such as Centreforce and Fantasy, and the DJ's on these , have all be inspirational to him. E.S.P has collected many styles of music over the years including Electro, Soul, Jazz, House, Hardcore and Jungle. His favourite genre is Hardcore from 1991/92 because at this stage in his career he was playing out a lot and raving hard at venues like The Rocket and Paradise." ESP will be bringing his funk, soul, electro side to Hentucky Breaks so it's bound to be really start to turn things up.
- KINGPIN: This Hentucky resident will be up for keeping with the spirit of creating a party atmosphere on the night. He has currently been working away on a variety of mixtapes and just honing the 'Hentucky Sound'. So he is up for mixing up tracks which should never be seen together "red and green darling," and well debatable if they should be heard out at all. With no shame, expect to hear tracks from Rick Astley and Bobby Brown to RJD2 and the Chemical Brothers. As long as people are dancing and having a good time, then that's all he cares about.
- DIRTY HABIT: You can catch this guy regularly at Breakfish or part of Mofo Recordings! From playing straight up breaks tracks to just good time party tunes, Dirty shall be aiming to keep the party going, by just playing good time music to suit the mood of the night. There will be plenty of arse shaking going on during his set I'm sure of it!
- GENOCIDE b2b SNYPA: Genocide, who's also a Hentucky Resident shall be going back to back with Snypa. Genocide currently working with his Re-Energize nights (which are gaining popularity so quickly) knows how to put on a show. From playing the darkest jungle to something a bit lighter to keep the crowd happy, he'll have a box out and ready as he aims to please. Snypa has been in the game from a long time, coming from a UK Hip Hop background in the 80s, to getting into the old skool hardcore/jungle scene. He's starting to re-establish himself in the scene and is getting bookings from all over the shop (most notiable Moondance, Son of Dance). Again Snypa knows how to aim to please, and will be doing so with Genocide.
With this line up and variation of DJs, the theme of building up the tempo, but ensuring that it's a good party selection throughout the night should be fulfilled with these performers.
Entry is £5 on the door, but if you can get a concession of £3 if you contact us with your Name and friends name who you are planning to bring on the night. You can email kingpin@hentuckybreaks.co.uk with subject "HENTUCKY BREAKS." If you tell us you and your friends full names, then you we will put you down on the list. Alternatively text HENTUCKY plus full names to 07773625629. Dress code: Just be yourself.
Sahara Nights is Located here.

On the night there will be a raffle for TCT, free CD giveaways and I shall be taking orders for Hentucky Breaks t-shirts. There will also be various activities going on so come down and see what it's all about.
If you would like to read about the previous nights then please click HERE. Any queries then please email me at kingpin@hentuckybreaks.co.uk or call the hotline on 07773625629.

Roy Thomas - Trek Nambia
Just a quick note for all you guys who are interested in helping out a worthy cause. But Roy Thomas is going to Namibia on a trek with a difference, on behalf of Carphone Warehouse Charity Partnership*. He'll be going to a remote community to help renovate a dilapidated kindergarten. Education is always an important asset to have, and to help give someone a chance in life somewhere, well I think it's a great cause. Also not overlooking the 'problems' which are closer to home, the charity will be also raising funds for Barnardos and Get Connected. Though this trip won't be free, and he needs help in raising money to make sure he has the tools and means to fulfil his task. So go to Just Giving to read more about what Roy and his fellow colleagues will be trying to achieve. Cheers - Ivan.
*CAF Supports Barnardo's and Get connected. All funds raised will be administered by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), the not-for-profit organisation which is committed to effective giving, providing a range of specialist services to donors, companies and charities in the UK and internationally. CAF's work spans the full breadth of the charitable sector, working wherever it can make a positive difference to the level and impact of giving.

Hentucky residents David Hope and Hemal Kuntawala have now launched their website Sunsoundlive.co.uk. Keep up to date with the latest sunsound nights, or chat bollocks on their forum (aka Dave going on his rants about love) it's definately a worthy read. Nice looking site by the way lads.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Hentuckybreaks.co.uk
From myself I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. 2004 has been a pretty mad year for myself, and I can only hope it will only get better in '05. I want to give a big shout to everyone involved in my venture. Eat loads of Turkey with the family whilst enjoying the awkward silences, whilst one of your random relatives rambles on like Jim Davidson's script writer. Then enjoy some wife beater, in a bid to numb the pain and then fall asleep whilst watching some stupid story line on Eastenders. Wake up, watch Airplane (usually on at 11:50pm on BBC1), whilst eating some leftovers, and then stumble into bed thinking...only 364 days till I have to do this shit again...
Nah seriously, I'm not some bitter and twisted cynic, just having a laugh (but you know it's true). But have a great Christmas whatever you do, and be safe for new years
For some Christmas reading, then check out my personal review of 2004 (click on the heading).
Food for thought - MoCa - Brixton
Just a quick recommendation if your looking for somewhere to eat out. A new Caribbean restaurant has opened above the old Dogstar in Coldharbour Lane in Brixton. The food is reasonably priced, and is a proper roots restaurant. The owner, who you will see there is from Trinidad, chefs proper Caribbean's, so the food is authentic. In a nice serene setting (which for Coldharbour lane is quite something) and is definitely worth going. I'm going to go there again, try the Pork as opposed to the chicken this time, get the menu so you can see what they have to offer and talk with the owner a little bit. It's starting out, and I like to show my support to something other than your usual wanky winebars (though you will probably see me in there after MoCa swooning like a dirty young man). So make a trip down (the waitresses are gorgeous by the way), and watch out for any man who wants 20p off you whilst you walk down the Lane. Oh if you go on a weekend, just run past the weirdos in there to get to the first floor.

DJ Genocide joins Hentucky Breaks as Resident DJ
Genocide has now become the first Hentucky Breaks resident DJ (well apart from myself but that's different), due to his excellent past performances at Hentucky Breaks, his top DJing ability and his tune selection. This boy knows his stuff, and is a good bloke and is an asset to the Hentucky Breaks promotion.
ANYWAYYYY...Another arse licking for now, and I just want to give him a warm welcome to the Hentucky Breaks team.
Hentucky Breaks' Genetically Modified experience 13/08/04 raises over £300 for Teenage Cancer Trust
Hentucky Breaks raises £320 for TCT for the latest Hentucky Breaks night. This is a great amount to raise which brings our grand total raise to under £1000 raised so far. This amount was less than previous as the bar total wasn't donated this time. Regardless awareness for TCT is being raised, and the money donated will go to helping their cause. So hope they can put good use to this. If you would like to read the full review on the night then click here for a review of hentucky breaks, the return.
Other Hentucky news, watch me out and about DJing around London and hopefully the country. There will be more Hentucky events planned at new venues, and also the new Hentucky mixtape in the next couple of months, featuring a few productions I'm currently working on. All will be revealed as and when I know it.
Hentucky Breaks - The Genetically Modified experience on Friday August 13th 2004.
In simple terms, Hentucky Breaks is Back at Matecana, 4-6 London Bridge Street SE1. After the success of the last one, we have secured a Friday night for you party animals. So no excuse for work (unless you do a Saturday shift, but boohoo).
This is the last event at Matecana, so basically it's set to be a big one. Also it's my (Ivan/Kingpin's) 21st birthday party (officially 22nd august mind), so want to make it extra special. Below are the details. But this one is going to be a breaks fest, with Dakuan and Genocide providing the main action. Dakuan will be playing the Party Breaks whilst Genocide will take it up a notch and lay down the hardcore and jungle. Also with a Bday set by myself, I'll be playing a more chilled out set. DJ Hope & Disco ML will be warming the crowd with the house flavours for the night.
- Venue: Matecana, 4-6 London Bridge St, London Bridge SE1. Click here for Map of the venue.
- Time: 9pm till 3am
- Price: £5 ALL NIGHT

Hentucky Breaks raises £610 for Teenage Cancer Trust
The July 1st Hentucky Breaks night at Matecana (London Bridge) was a great success. £610 was raised from the door, the bar money donated from Matecana and some tin rattling. Just want to give a big shout out to everyone at Matecana for working so hard, John, Maria (boss lady), Gus, Tia, Catherine and everyone else doing their bit. Also massive thanks to everyone who was there on the night. For a more detailed review of the night then click here.
