- Top 50 albums of the decade
Every man and their dog are doing their own top 10/50/100/200 albums of the decade pole, and Hentucky wants a piece of the action. Discussing this subject with friends brings up a lot of debate, agreement and just a “oh shit I forgot about that.” I’m sure looking back the utter memory blanks will slowly be filled in but… “heh.”
How the albums have been ranked is based on a culmination of things. Firstly any album in this list have been totally rinsed to death in some way shape or form. But secondly any album towards the top end of the list have had some profound affect on myself, and in effect how it has influenced Hentucky in some way shape or form.
This is why you may see some classic albums that are missing, albums you may not agree with being anywhere near this list, or even in that order within the list. But the joys of music is how you can associate it with a time, place and moment in your life and how it can soundtrack that. Think about that time when you had an argument with a partner, or were travelling across a foreign unknown landscape and all of a sudden ‘that’ album came on and made sense. For the next hour or so, all the imagery beside you, all the thoughts and internal playback in your head just seemed to edit itself into that small short film that culminates to an epiphany of your life, whilst being sound tracked to whatever was coming out of your headphones.
What happens next could help drive you to do something you never thought of, or had to balls to do, or even just to carry on as normal (with a little added bounce in your step). Anyway, as cheesy as it sounds is irrelevant because it’s true, and as to insert a really corny final thought… that’s what great music is about.
