Are these Facebook groups of any influence at all? Does having 30,000 members autonomously pressing “like” make any difference? One would hope so, but it’s not the only way to show that you give a shit.
Knee jerk reactions to problems without any thought of the long term effect is a classic response to the problem. I fully understand about tough decisions have to be made, but the problem with Central Government directives, there’s always the air of feeling ‘anxious’ which provokes the most reckless of cuts. The fact there has been such response to this cut from the media, film makers and the general public has been reassuring to see.
The UK Film industry has slowly been gaining ground on telling stories in the uniquely British way, without it looking like a TV movie of the now defunct Bill (in HD).
Therefore Hentuckys existence is paramount now. Low budgets and high quality. Not exactly two things that go hand in hand. But, if that’s the precedent that Central Government are going to set, then that’s what has to be delivered. What is quality? Using good talent, skill to produce the best film you can do, with whatever equipment, sets and anything else you can afford/steal/borrow.
It’s a simple philosophy, but one that’s overlooked regularly. And that’s what we’re all about… delivering passion projects. And if you’re passionate then you will work your socks off to make sure every part of the film will be shit hot.
